Cuba-born and internationally renowned salsero Rey Ruiz wears the moniker “Elvis of Salsa” (a title originally crowned by Miami music critics) with utmost pride as he climbs the stage to kick off this joyous evening. Long beloved for hits such as “Mi Media Mitad,” “Amiga,” and “No Me Acostumbro,” Ruiz brings a sweet, summery flair for romance and melodies defined by classic ‘50s mambo. The early 1990s marked the beginning of his career, which took off to a terrific start with a four-album platinum streak from his titular debut and 1996’s Destino. Ronald Borjas of Venezuela, best known for Latin Grammy-nominated LPs Escultura (“Album of the Year,” “Best Contemporary Tropical Album”) and Joyas Que Bailan (“Best Salsa Album”), joins in a second headlining capacity. One of his home country’s greatest exponents of salsa, this debonair singer is the godson of the legendary Oscar D'León. Borjas’ first ventures into music spawned the Venezuelan radio hits “Te Encuentraré” and “Dame Tu Amor,” eventually leading to global domination. His side of the performance features top-streaming singles like “Tu y Yo Tenemos,” “Dime Cómo Hago,” “Me Descontrola,” and other tropical bops up to his new Swing de la Calle EP.
